Description
Quanta Nova bacteriostatic water (BAC water) is a laboratory reconstitution solution containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol. This 3 mL 8-pack offers a convenient, consistent supply for laboratory use.
Each BAC water batch begins with type 1 ultrapure water. We add 0.9% benzyl alcohol, then filter the solution through a 0.22 µm PES membrane. Every new batch is independently tested for acceptable pH range and benzyl alcohol content. With each new batch, we provide a certificate of analysis available for review and verifiable by the independent testing lab (Vanguard Labs).
The 0.9% benzyl alcohol acts as a preservative that helps to inhibit microbial growth, so a vial can be accessed more than once during laboratory work. This makes it a stable, consistent aqueous solution for reconstitution applications that call for a preserved diluent.
A 0.22-micron PES (polyethersulfone) membrane is a high-efficiency sterile filter known for its contaminant-removal properties. The result is a clear, particulate-free solution that meets stringent purity standards.
We use Type I borosilicate glass vials. Each vial goes through a two-step pretreatment process: an alcohol rinse for sterilization, followed by an acid wash that helps keep the pH of the unbuffered solution consistent.
Each 3 mL vial is sealed with pretreated, alcohol-soaked rubber stoppers and an aluminum crimp cap to protect the contents between uses.
Key Benefits:
-
Multiple-access vials: 0.9% benzyl alcohol preservative allows repeated access during reconstitution work.
-
Filling stations are cleaned and sterilized before each production run.
-
Type I borosilicate glass vials are washed and sterilized prior to filling.
- Every batch is 0.22 µm filtered and independently tested, with a published verifiable COA.

BAC Water FAQ
What is bacteriostatic water (BAC water)?
Bacteriostatic water (BAC water) is sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol. The benzyl alcohol is a preservative that slows bacterial growth after a vial is opened. Read more: What Is Bacteriostatic Water?
How is BAC water different from sterile water?
Sterile water has no preservative and is meant for one use. BAC water contains benzyl alcohol, so a vial can be accessed more than once. Read more: Bacteriostatic Water vs Sterile Water
Is reconstitution solution the same as BAC water?
Quanta Nova BAC water is a reconstitution solution containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol. Not every product labeled “reconstitution solution” uses the same formula, so check the label and certificate of analysis. Read more: Reconstitution Solution vs BAC Water
How long does BAC water last after opening?
Quanta Nova recommends no more than 28 days after first access. Read more: How Long Does Bacteriostatic Water Last?
Should I choose 3 mL or 10 mL vials?
Both contain the same 0.9% benzyl alcohol formula. Because each vial has a 28-day limit after first access, 3 mL vials suit laboratory work that uses smaller volumes, so less is left unused; 10 mL vials suit larger volumes. 3 mL 8-Pack · 10 mL 4-Pack · 10 mL 8-Pack
Is every batch tested?
Yes. Each batch is independently tested, and the certificate of analysis is published on our test results page.
